SUMMARY:Pray for Snow
DESCRIPTION:The sprinkling of powder on the Spring Mountains and the recent dip in temperature made for a picture-perfect setting for the first Pray for Snow party on Saturday\, Nov. 19 at Skye Center. About 250 people of all ages joined the fun in hopes of encouraging the snow gods to give Lee Canyon a prosperous winter season. Magically\, by Monday morning\, snowflakes started to fall on the mountain. \nThe Pray for Snow party was hosted in partnership with Lee Canyon\, our inaugural partner in the Skye Pass program\, which offers Skye Canyon residents lift ticket and season pass discounts. Lee Canyon had a booth set up and made it easy for guests to purchase and pick up their season passes. (For updates on Lee Canyon’s opening day\, visit leecanyonlv.com.) \nThe party started at 3 p.m. when local band Street Folk started playing everyone’s favorite covers. After sunset guests warmed-up by enjoying gourmet hot chili and hot chocolate around fire pits on the patio of Skye Center. Just a Bite provided everyone who attended the event a boxed s’mores kit (we noticed many people didn’t wait to get home to open up their treats!) \nParty guests who toured model homes in Skye Canyon by Century Communities\, Pulte Homes\, Woodside Homes\, and Pardee Homes were entered into a raffle where prizes included a Lee Canyon Snow Experience package\, Lee Canyon’s snow cabana (including a $300 food and beverage credit)\, Salomon skis\, a Never Summer snowboard and Skye Canyon branded North Face jackets. \nGuests who made a donation to Operation Warmheart\, the event’s non-profit partner\, received a raffle ticket for a second drawing for a 49” LG HD TV courtesy of CenturyLink. Over $1\,400 was raised and will be used towards providing 500 turkey dinners to airmen and their families who are going through hardships this Thanksgiving. \nSkye Canyon was designed to create a sense of community by offering opportunities for people to meet their neighbors and develop new friendships. And at Pray for Snow that’s exactly what happened. Stay tuned for future Fit Lives Here events like Pray for Snow and be sure to follow us on social media to stay updated on all of Skye Canyon’s events and happenings.

SUMMARY:Kayak Trip
DESCRIPTION:Adventure day trips are always on the calendar at Skye Canyon. This month residents kayaked on the Colorado River. The professional guide helped our kayak novices prepare for the day by fitting them with the proper gear and knowledge to have a safe and fun-filled day. Paddling their way along the Colorado they learned about the history of the river and observed native wildlife like the bighorn sheep.

SUMMARY:Skye & Stars: A Night to Remember
DESCRIPTION:September evenings at Skye Canyon bring cool breezes rolling off the Spring Mountains and perfect stargazing conditions. On Saturday\, September 10\, more than 500 people of all ages spread out blankets and enjoyed music and a sunset picnic at Skye Canyon Park. When the skies grew dark\, members of the Las Vegas Astronomical Society (LVAS) guided attendees through a tour of the night sky at Skye & Stars; a special evening that was a part of our ongoing Fit Lives Here series of community events. \nThe LVAS team had ten telescopes on-site including two Mallincams\, powerful high-tech astronomy video cameras\, and a space-age purple laser that points directly to an object in the night sky making it easy to view stars and the galaxies. Guests were treated to an ‘up close’ view of the moon’s craters and mountain ridges\, the rings of Saturn\, Mars\, the Andronis Galaxy and Neptune. More than 100 of the Skye and Stars attendees listened to an educational presentation on Saturn. \nBefore dark\, kids were able to play on the jungle gyms in Skye Canyon Park while DJ ToneArmz created a festive vibe. Rachel’s Kitchen was also on hand selling boxed picnic dinners. \nLVAS is a local non-profit organization made up of passionate amateur astronomers. The group was formed to promote astronomy\, educate the public\, and support schools with similar astronomical programs. For more information on this great organization visit www.lvastronomy.com.

SUMMARY:Silent Savasana Success
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday morning\, June 25\, a cool breeze rolled off of Mt. Charleston and down Kyle Canyon as the moon lingered over the Spring Mountains. Gathered on the lawn of Skye Canyon Park\, 135 yogis of all ages from all over the Las Vegas Valley stretched and prepped on their mats for one of Dray Gardner’s signature Silent Savasana yoga classes. \nSilent Savasana offers yogis the experience of a distraction-free yoga experience. Students wear padded LED headphones and follow along with Gardner’s instruction paired with an eclectic mix of music. The headphones create an environment of solitude\, and students commented on how it felt like a one-on-one yoga class. That privacy gives students the freedom and space to dive inward –as Gardner says\, “Silent Savasana is a work in not a workout.” \nTen years ago Gardner walked into his first yoga class assisted by a cane. Nearly crippled by back and nerve pain\, the former contact sports athlete was desperate to find relief. While yoga liberated the then 38-year-old from suffering\, Gardner’s big takeaway was a new life path ruled by a desire to change the way people feel and how they think about themselves through the power of yoga. \nToday\, Gardner–who has earned certifications from the Bikram Center in Hawaii and the Dharma Center in New York\, is one of the most acclaimed yoga teachers in Las Vegas. He is best known for delivering sermon-like yoga instruction that encourages students to test their limits while offering nuggets of wisdom on self-love\, how to let go of the ego and what it means to love yourself enough to struggle\, one of his best-known lines. \nAfter the free yoga class that was a part of Skye Canyon’s ongoing Fit Lives Here series\, attendees gathered by the junior Olympic-sized swimming pool at Skye Center and enjoyed the music of DJ ToneArmz\, along with food and beverages served at Skye Bistro. Lulu Lemon held a trunk show\, so attendees had fun shopping for new yoga gear. Participants toured Skye Fitness and Skye Canyon’s model homes. \nCheck out all the photos from the event at our Facebook page. \nStay up-to-date on upcoming Fit Lives Here events by signing up for our email list or follow Skye Canyon on Facebook\, Twitter or Instagram.

SUMMARY:FIT LIVES HERE: Shouldn’t you?
DESCRIPTION:We’re off to a great start with our FIT LIVES HERE series of events\, with the inaugural Skye Canyon 8K Trail Mix and 5K Road Race being a huge success. We had over 200 runners and walkers of all levels on routes that wove through the community and onto nearby trails. The event raised funds for the Outside Las Vegas Foundation (OLVF)\, a non-profit organization whose mission is to connect people to Southern Nevada’s special outdoor places. \nIn the 8K\, first place for the ladies went to Christine Beiderer (36:45) and Sergio Ibarra (33:28) was first for the men. In the 5K\, Emily Mangino (23:28) took first for the women and Philip King (19:39) took first place for the men. A special thanks goes out to Desert Sky Adventures and the Outside Las Vegas Foundation for their partnership\, and be sure to check out our Facebook page to see all our race day photos. \nThe next FIT LIVES HERE event at Skye Canyon is absolutely free. Silent Savasana offers a unique\, fun\, and inspiring version of yoga. Led by renowned instructor Dray Gardner\, the 75-minute class teaches balance\, discipline\, focus\, determination\, and strength of mind. Each participant hears the instructor and music through their top-of-the-line headphones for a virtual one-on-one experience. Just bring your own mat; all ages and levels are welcome!
