In celebration of Earth Day 2020, Skye Canyon hosted its first socially distant community event, ChalkForEarth on Wednesday, April 22. A sidewalk chalk challenge that invited residents to create an earth-themed chalk masterpiece on the sidewalk or in the driveway of their house, ChalkForEarth provided an opportunity to show community spirit and get creative while maintaining the safety guidelines in place. Free chalk was safely made available and given away to interested residents in advance of the creative event.

A challenge that the entire family could do together, ChalkForEarth also featured a contest in which participants were encouraged to either email or upload a photo of their creative submission to Skye Canyon social media tagging #ChalkForEarth for entry. More than 50 entries were submitted, and the creativity was inspiring with chalk masterpieces depicting a variety of images celebrating the earth. Colorful trees, detailed animals, the planet, flowers, self-portraits, and more were submitted. Picking winners were challenging with so many amazing displays of chalk artistry. Ultimately, prizes of $250 in Amazon gift cards were awarded to the winners in two categories: Family and Adult Solo.

Known as a community that encourages fitness, the love of being outdoors and has an abundance of community pride, ChalkForEarth was introduced as part of a new Thrive@Skye Canyon program. While communities are all adapting to new routines and spending more time at home, Skye Canyon wants to continue to inspire all residents to enrich their lives with a series of family events that encourage the community to engage while maintaining the safety directives in place. Additional Thrive@Skye events included Skye And Stars (Driveway Edition) on World Astronomy Day, Saturday, May 2 and the Memorial Day Patriotic Car Parade on Monday, May 25.
