On Tuesday, December 18, the community gathered to honor the memory of one of Las Vegas Metro’s finest at the groundbreaking of the Officer Alyn Beck Memorial Park. The 10-acre park located at 9222 Brent Lane pays tribute to Beck’s years of service to our city, his devotion to his family, friends and fellow officers. Beck lost his life in the line of duty in 2014.

A place for families and friends to gather, the park includes amenities like two LED-lit natural turf sports fields sized for soccer and lacrosse, a shaded tot playground, water-play features, a basketball court, and shade ramadas and trees with benches,

Among those in attendance at the groundbreaking were the Beck family, Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo, and City of Las Vegas Councilwoman Michele Fiore. Garry Goett, chairman and CEO of Olympia Companies, developer of Skye Canyon, spoke on behalf of Skye Canyon.

“Giving back to the community is a part of our company’s core values. It reflects the ideals shared by our Skye Canyon residents,” said Goett. Though located outside of the Skye Canyon community, Olympia agreed to pay for the park’s construction during a land deal with the City of Las Vegas.  “Officer Beck is a hero. We could not think of a better way to honor his legacy than with a park where people will create memories with families and friends.”

“We are looking forward to the construction of the new park in Ward 6,” said Councilwoman Michelle Fiore. “The new park will both honor a precious fallen officer, husband, and father and provide a wonderful place for neighborhood families to gather and children to play.”

Rafael Construction will build the park, which is expected to take approximately one year. Once completed, The City of Las Vegas will offer programming and maintain the new park.
