Lace up your sneakers, chug a smoothie and grab a friend! It’s time to hit the pavement for Skye Canyon’s Fourth Annual 8K/5K Road Race. The race is Saturday, March 9 at 9 a.m., and registration is now open to runners and walkers of all fitness levels.

The race starts at Skye Canyon Park and continues through Skye Canyon’s Phase 2 neighborhoods. Our race has become a favorite among local runners and walkers because it’s a fun way to take in scenic views of the Spring Mountains while giving back to a great cause.

This year’s race proceeds benefit the Special Olympics Nevada, a nonprofit that transforms the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities by providing year-round sports training and competition by replicating the Olympic Games.

“Special Olympics Nevada does more than offer sports programming to its athletes, they give participants the opportunity to feel what it’s like to part of a team and to enjoy athletic games in a fun, competitive spirit,” said Desiree Van Leer, marketing manager of Olympia Companies, developer of Skye Canyon.

Race registration is $25 and includes a finisher medal, t-shirt and swag bag. Top finishers receive prizes. All participants can re-energize with a sweet pancake breakfast following the race. If you’re a supporter on the sidelines, you can enjoy hotcakes too for just $5. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Nevada.
