School Supply Drive Supports Assistance League of Las Vegas – Operation School Bell
Skye Canyon residents, neighbors and businesses continue to show their charitable community spirit as they generously donated a myriad of backpacks and school supplies in support of Assistance League of Las Vegas’ annual Operation School Bell program.
With drop off locations in Skye Center, Skye Fitness and in numerous businesses including Smith’s Marketplace, Club Pilates, Chase Bank, Island Flavor and Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, the weeklong school supply drive yielded more than 1,200 items valued at approximately $2,500. Adding to that, as part of its ongoing Skye Serves charitable program, the Skye Canyon Co-Op donated $1,000 in new backpacks and $1,000 in additional school supplies. Ultimately, enough school supply essentials were donated to fill 350 backpacks.
To top off the drive, volunteers gathered to stuff the colorful new backpacks with an array of brand-new items including notebooks, colored pencils, glue sticks, crayons, markers, folders, erasers and more.
It’s no secret that having the right school supplies can make a big difference for kids as they pursue their education. Research shows that children with the appropriate school supplies can improve grades, creativity, attitude towards learning, behavior, and self-image – increasing their chances for success at school.
Students in Clark County need school supplies for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Despite the challenging 2020-2021 school year due to the ongoing pandemic, Operation School Bell provided new clothing and other essentials to 7,426 students in need. It’s estimated that roughly 12,000 students in grades K-12 in the greater Las Vegas area are in need of things like clothing and school supplies.
Skye Canyon is appreciative of the generous spirit of the community and all who donated to the Back-to-School Supply Drive, benefitting Assistance League Las Vegas’ Operation School Bell.
