LAS VEGAS (Sept. 28, 2019) – Hundreds of attendees turned out at Skye Canyon Park for Skye Canyon’s Chalk + Cheers art fair and fall festival, Saturday, Sept. 28. 2019. The event included the community’s third annual juried chalk art competition where 45 artists competed for top honors. This year’s theme was “Inspire-Be-Inspired.” All winners are from the Las Vegas valley except Haylo Jugler who is from northern Utah. This year’s Chalk + Cheers winners are:

The jury was comprised of local art aficionados including Melanie Stimmel Van Latum, an internationally acclaimed artist and co-founder of We Talk Chalk, Amy Miles, an art teacher for Somerset Academy, and local artist and UNLV art student Lauryn Lellos.

Stimmel Van Latum also served as the event’s live artist, creating a 300 square-foot interactive 3D live art installation. Van Latum is an award-winning artist with creative credits in “South Park,” and is the only woman to ever hold the title of “maestra madonnara” (master street painter) in two countries, Italy and Germany. The 3D street painting depicted a canyon scene that included a rock climber and a tightrope. Attendees were able to pose for photos on the artwork.

Festival elements include margaritas, a craft beer bar hosted by Big Dog’s Brewery, live music, food trucks, and a children’s activity zone. Skye Serves’ charitable initiatives will receive 25 percent of alcohol purchases. The newly expanded Chalk + Cheers kids’ activity area offered a freestyle chalk art zone, an autumn-themed crafts area, face and hair painting, a hair braiding bar, water tattoos, and a toddler play area.
