LAS VEGAS – Skye Canyon, the next generation master-planned community, welcomed more than 202 racers to its inaugural Skye Canyon 8K Trail Mix and 5K Road Race on Saturday, May 14, 2016. In the 8K race, Christine Biederer took first for the women with a time of 36:45 and Sergio Ibarra was the first male finisher with a time of 33:28. In the 5K, Emily Mangino took top honors for the women with a time of 23:28 and Philip King nabbed first for the men with a time of 19:39. (Race results are below)
A benefit for the Outside Las Vegas Foundation (OLVF), a non-profit organization whose mission is to connect people to Southern Nevada’s special outdoor places, 5K racers traveled through Skye Canyon’s neighborhoods including Century Communities, Pulte Homes and Woodside Homes. The 8K run started on the streets of Skye Canyon’s communities and then ventured off onto nearby trails.
The event was also the launch of Skye Canyon’s “Fit Lives Here” event series. In the coming months, plans for the program include activities such as outdoor yoga, fitness classes and Q&A’s with prominent outdoor athletes that are free and open to the public.

A raffle was held to support OLVF. Prizes included four $100 dollar gift cards, courtesy of Pulte Homes, Inc., Woodside Homes, and Century Communities and Pardee Homes. Other prizes included a Garmin Forerunner 910xt watch with heart rate monitor and four Skye Canyon North Face jackets, courtesy of Skye Canyon. All race packets included a unique finisher’s medal, race t-shirt, and goodie bag.
After the race, racers enjoyed light breakfast fare, pressed juices and coffee inside Skye Center. They also toured homes in Phase 1 of Skye Canyon, as well as Skye Center, an 8,142-square-foot rustic contemporary community center featuring The Bistro, a coffee and wine bar, outdoor patio, fireplace and fire pits. Racers could also tour Skye Fitness, a 9,663-square-foot state-of-the-art facility that includes a juice bar, yoga room, and an outdoor Junior Olympic swimming pool.
