International chalk art competitor Jay Schwartz is the featured artist to create this year’s live art display at Skye Canyon’s Chalktober Fest on Saturday, October 20, 2018, from 2 to 6 p.m. Schwartz has worked on many installations in Las Vegas hotels and is currently working on NoMad Las Vegas, set to open fall 2018. He has participated in chalk art competitions in Italy, Mexico, and Japan, as well as several in the U.S. He resides in Las Vegas and Santa Barbara, Calif.
“Jay’s work is fun and whimsical, it is an honor to have him as a part of Chalktober Fest,” said Desiree Van Leer, marketing manager for Olympia Companies, developer of Skye Canyon. “Chalk art competitions have become very popular. The artwork is original and while the drawings come to life in hours, they are temporary, one-of-a-kind visual experiences for attendees. With the growth of the Las Vegas art community, this year’s event should not be missed.”
Street Folk, a local band who regularly performs at Lee Canyon, will provide live music at Chalktober Fest. The band is known for delivering a unique blend of popular music that includes everything from Bruno Mars to Train and regularly takes requests.
Chalktober Fest includes a local chalk art competition where artists of all skill levels will compete for cash prizes. A vendor fair with artwork in an array of mediums like paint, pencil and charcoals, collage, sculpture, and photography and others will be for sale. Other highlights include a freestyle chalk art area that is open for adults and kids, local food trucks Stripchezze, 50 Shades of Green, and Churros 101, and seasonal craft beer and wine. Kids activities include bounce houses, a giant slide, Pick-a-Pumpkin patch where children can select a pumpkin for free and parents can make an optional donation to support Create A Change Now Foundation, a pumpkin-decorating station, and a Halloween-themed photo booth.
