Skye Canyon adds Pick-a-Pumpkin fundraiser benefitting Create a Change Now Foundation to the lineup of activities at Chalktober Fest on Saturday, October 20, 2018. From 2 to 6 p.m., kids can pick a 6- to 15-pound pumpkin to take home for free from a patch of 1,000 pumpkins. A suggested $2 per-pumpkin donation benefits Create a Change Now, a local nonprofit that educates children and families about nutrition to prevent diseases associated with unhealthy eating habits.
“We appreciate Create a Change Now’s engaging and hands-on approach to teach kids about a life of healthy habits,” said Desiree Van Leer, marketing manager for Olympia Companies, developer of Skye Canyon. “Their mission aligns so well with the ideals of Skye Canyon and the healthy lifestyle we embrace. Our hope is to draw attention to their cause and raise some well-deserved funds at the same time.”
Chalktober Fest will include several other family-friendly activities including two inflatable bounce houses, a giant slide, a pumpkin-decorating station, face painting, and a fall-themed photo booth. Halloween costumes are encouraged but not required.
Chalktober Fest features a chalk art competition, where local artists will compete for cash prizes, and an art fair where an array of mediums like paint, pencil and charcoals, collage, sculpture, and photography will be on display and for sale to all guests. Other highlights include a freestyle chalk art area that is open to all attendees and local food trucks including Stripchezze, 50 Shades of Green and Churros 101. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase with all proceeds benefiting Create a Change Now.
