Skye Canyon, a 1,700-acre master-planned community in northwest Las Vegas opens registration for its third annual 8K Trail Mix and 5K Road Race on Saturday, March 10, 2018. The races start at 9 a.m. at Skye Canyon Park. Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. Registration fees gradually increase until race day and range from $30 to $55. Registration is available online at skyecanyon.com/race.
Both courses start at Skye Canyon Park and take participants through Skye Canyon’s neighborhoods with sweeping views of the Spring Mountains. The 8K route maneuvers off the road onto a nearby single-track trail.
Registration includes a t-shirt, finishers medal, and goodie bag; race packet pick up will be held at REI in Boca Park on March 8 from 4-7pm. The race is produced by Bristlecone Events.
The race kicks off Skye Canyon’s Fit Fest, a family-friendly active living-themed festival that includes fitness class demos, yoga, an artisanal market, health-focused vendors, and other fun activities. Additional Fit Fest details will be available soon on Skye Canyon’s website and social media.
A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit Create a Change Now, a local nonprofit committed to educating children, and their families, in at-risk Clark County elementary schools about proper nutrition to combat preventable diseases that include obesity. The organization hopes to introduce children to a healthy relationship with food by teaching kids healthy eating principles through edible learning, gardening instruction, and nutrition classes.
“Three years ago, Skye Canyon wanted to host races that benefit local nonprofits. One race with 200 participants quickly turned into a fitness festival that draws thousands of people,” said Desiree Van Leer, Marking Manager of Olympia Companies, developer of Skye Canyon. “By partnering with Create a Change Now, we feel together we can make a bigger impact in helping disadvantaged kids improve their quality of life.”
