Skye Canyon’s Fit Fest 2020 was the biggest and best yet as more than 360 runners ranging from novices to trailblazers to those just seeking a stroll with family and friends enjoyed a day of racing and fitness-focused fun at Skye Canyon Park. Even better, 100% of proceeds from race registration totaling $7,071 will directly benefit the Kline Veterans Fund, a charitable organization providing financial assistance and other support to homeless, at-risk and indigent veterans and their families in Southern Nevada.
Under beautiful clear and crisp skies, the day began with Carnell “Golden Pipes” Johnson singing the national anthem and the UNLV ROTC Honor Guard presenting the colors. After a warmup led by High Fitness, it was off to the races for the 5k/8k Road Race and the first-ever 1-Mile Fun Run.
Congratulations to 8k top finishers Drew Ehlert, Kenneth Tso-McBurney and Mark Jimenez and to 5k top racers Logan Scott, Leah Groppenbacher and Tyson Woods.
The wellness celebration continued throughout the day with Silent Savasana yoga in the park, where participants unrolled their mat, put on supplied headphones and found their center with the guidance of renowned yoga instructor Dray Gardner. Additionally, a variety of fitness classes and demonstrations were offered throughout the day including Power Half Hour (P90X) 30-minute whole body workout, SpinSanity 30-minute heart pumping, body rocking spin session and Sonic Boomba Zumba, a 30-minute cardio dance party.
Attendees also enjoyed a Kids Fun Zone complete with bungee trampoline jumping, a rock-climbing wall, an obstacle course, inflatable sports activities and field games. Fit Fest also featured a special edition of the Skye Canyon Las Vegas Farmers Market with community fresh, organic produce from Rod’s Produce Market and artisan crafts and products from a variety of talented vendors.
There was no shortage of food and drink offerings as Local 808 Brewery, Tre Amici’s, Vaqueros and Prisma Hospitality served up a variety of delicious options.
