It’s a fact that having the right school supplies can make a big difference for kids as they pursue their education. Research shows that children with the appropriate school supplies can improve grades, creativity, attitude towards learning, behavior, and self-image – increasing their chances for success at school.

Knowing that this school year, perhaps more than ever, students in Clark County need school supplies, Skye Canyon invited residents and the public to help students by donating to its annual Back-to-School Supply Drive, benefitting Assistance League Las Vegas’ Operation School Bell.

The community delivered! More than 400 separate items including backpacks, scissors, thumb drives, calculators, pencils, crayons, notebooks, erasers, rulers, washable markers, glue sticks, folders, and paper were dropped off at various designated locations throughout Skye Canyon including at the drive-through Farmers Market during the weeklong event. An additional $175 in cash was also collected.

The final day of the school supply drive was also National Ice Cream Day. Donors were thanked with a free ice cream bar from Fat Daddy’s Ice Cream truck at Skye Center by showing their receipt of their contribution from the week.

Even better, as part of its Skye Serves charitable program, Skye Canyon generously matched the value of the donations and chipped in $2,000.

With the new school year approaching and despite the shortened 2019-2020 school year due to COVID-19, Operation School Bell provided new clothing and other essentials to 7,426 students in need. This year, it’s estimated that roughly 12,000 students in grades K-12 in the greater Las Vegas area are in need of things like clothing and school supplies.
