Runners and walkers of all ages are gearing up for Skye Canyon’s third annual 8K Trail Mix and 5K Road Run on Saturday, March 10. This family-friendly race is open to runners and walkers of all ability levels. Both races start at 9 a.m. at Skye Canyon Park. The 5K winds through the neighborhoods of Skye Canyon while those in the 8K get to mix it up by heading off onto nearby dirt trails. And because it’s Skye Canyon, both courses offer breathtaking views of the Spring Mountains that surround the community.
All finishers get a medal and a goodie bag. All finishers get a medal and a goodie bag. Race packet pick up will be held at REI in Boca Park on March 8 from 4 – 7 p.m.
We believe in supporting local non-profits that share our mission of helping people to lead healthier and more fulfilled lives, so a portion of event proceeds will benefit Create a Change Now, a local nonprofit committed to educating children, and their families, in at-risk Clark County elementary schools about proper nutrition to combat preventable diseases like obesity. The organization helps children to understand how to have a healthy relationship with food by teaching children healthy eating principles through learning, gardening instruction, and nutrition classes.
The race also kicks off Skye Canyon’s second annual Fit Fest, a family-friendly active living-themed festival that runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fit Fest is free to attend and includes fitness classes and demonstrations, interactive lifestyle booths, kids’ activities, healthy cuisine, and a vendor expo.
Fun activities include a build your own trail mix station hosted by Whole Foods, and lawn games with the Las Vegas Lights Football Club, and for all the healthy foodies in Las Vegas, Chef Will Staten will be conducting healthy food demonstrations every 30 minutes at Skye Bistro. There will be a recovery and relaxation area that will offer FST stretching and massages from the NV School of Massage therapy for racers and other Fit Fest attendees.
Live entertainment includes fitness demonstrations by Mixxed Fit, a tap dance showcase by Victoria Jones, and Jay R Beatbox will provide vocal entertainment.
For the kids, Star Nursery hosts an interactive veggie garden experience, and other activities will include a rock-climbing wall and a giant inflatable obstacle course. Jaguar and Land Rover Las Vegas will be handing out free bicycle helmets to kids. Helmets are available while supplies last.
The lifestyle expo will have over 30 vendors like Lee Canyon Ski and Snowboard Resort, Paiute Golf Resort, Southern Nevada Bicycle Coalition, REI, Soccer Shots Youth Soccer League, TRY Yoga, local protein bar company Mad Macro, a Lorna Jane activewear pop-up shop, and Bombs & Bubbles vegan bath products. Guests can also enter the Skye Canyon Giveaway to win a set of wireless Bose headphones, rounds of golf from Paiute Golf Resort and Skye Canyon gear.
Don’t forget to visit Skye Canyon’s homebuilders, tour over 28 model homes and learn more about all of Skye Canyon’s new home offerings. Phase II is underway, so it’s a great chance to learn about our latest neighborhoods.
