Fitness Lovers Celebrate the Skye Life at Fit Fest
April 6, 2017 @ 12:00 am
On Sunday, March 19, more than 1500 fitness-lovers from around Las Vegas made their way to Skye Canyon Park for the inaugural Fit Fest, a celebration of health and fitness. A sun filled day with a light breeze made for a perfect day to run, practice yoga, play mini-golf, scale the rock-climbing wall and shop locally produced goods at the artisan market.
The second annual Skye Canyon 8K Trail Mix & 5K Road Race kicked the day off at 8 a.m. when nearly 200 runners took their mark. The 5K course took runners through Skye Canyon’s Phase 1 neighborhoods while runners in the 8K Trail Mix first hit the streets and then took to the dirt trails in the community.
The top three finishers in each division received a commemorative plaque and include:
First Place 5K 8K

Benefiting the Outside Las Vegas Foundation, funds will support programs like park cleanups, health education, and teaching youth to appreciate the Southern Nevada’s great outdoors.
At 10 a.m. more than 300 yogis got their “om” on when local yoga guru and instructor Dray Gardner taught a Silent Savasana class on the south side of Skye Canyon Park. Silent Savasana is a blend of traditional hatha yoga with music where attendees wear headphones that block out outside distractions. The yogi only hears the instructor’s voice and the music. The 90-minute class included yogis of all levels and kids as young as 6 years old.
Inside Skye Fitness, Troy, Heidi and Dana, the team at Skye Fitness, taught 30-minute fitness classes such as Skye Cycle, Danceworkz, Bootcamp Blast, and Core Training that make residents sweat.
Fit families enjoyed the day as kids lined up for a chance to climb the rock-climbing wall, navigate obstacle courses, play mini golf and rugby.
Mix 94.1 Mercedes in the Morning co-host JC Fernandez kept everyone in the spirit with a blend of his upbeat tunes. Slidin Thru and 50 Shades of Green food trucks served up scrumptiously healthy goodies and an artisanal farmers market featuring local vendors was set up for those who wanted to purchase healthy items to take home. Fit Fest was the perfect way to bid winter good-bye and bring on spring.
